Dr Hammond is a physician and Rheumatologist of 30 years experience and has a further specialisation in Interventional Spinal Pain Management with particular Interest in treatment of back pain and sciatica due to Intervertebral disc disease in which he is one of the UK’s leading published clinicians.

  • He graduated from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1980, trained in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology in Bristol, Bath (the RNHRD) and St Bart’s Hospital, London and wrote an MD in the immunopathology of SLE with Professor Sir Mark Walport at the Hammersmith Hospital.
  • He was appointed Consultant at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 1992.   There he built the department and engaged actively in Rheumatology research completing and collaborating in around 30 clinical trials and publishing a similar number of papers and articles.
  • In response to patient need, Dr Hammond trained in interventional spinal pain management with the Spinal Interventional Society and he is now a Senior Tutor in spinal pain management techniques for this international organisation and teaches and trains widely.
  • Recent publications include positive results from 100 cases of disc pain treatment and cases of antibiotic treatment for MODIC pain and he remains active in Rheumatology research in the development of novel therapeutics.
  • Dr Hammond has an extensive range of procedural skills and is also able to treat large joint pain and osteoarthritis with advanced regenerative (APRP and Goldic) as well as interventional treatments.
