Dr Kristian Kley

Consultant Orthopaedic Knee & Hip Surgeon

Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Kristian Kley is renowned for his work in complex reconstructive hip and knee surgery and has developed many new approaches for applying osteotomy to knee conditions. Based in Hannover, he also serves as consulting surgeon for several international bodies and works at The London Knee Osteotomy Centre. His highly efficient surgical workflows have become widely adopted by colleagues.

After leaving Hannover Medical School in 2006, Dr Kley undertook a five-year residency in orthopaedic trauma with Professor Philipp Lobenhoffer, with whom he continues to work. Having worked as Assistant Doctor Trauma Surgery at the Henrietten Foundation from 2007-2009, he went on to focus on spinal surgery at Anna Foundation, as an orthopaedic assistant under Dr Frank Gossé. In 2011, he joined Sportclinic Germany and, in 2015, achieved his doctorate.

A part of Dr Kley’s work is the use of computer simulation to plan and implement complex osteotomies and improve surgical procedures by engineering new technologies and techniques. He carries out many distal femoral osteotomies (correction of deformities in the thigh bone) each year and has also developed minimal-invasive osteotomy femur and tibia techniques which are now used regularly worldwide. His aim is for The London Knee Osteotomy Centre to become the world’s leading osteotomy centre.

His innovative hip replacement procedure speeds up recovery, seeing patients able to walk the day after joint replacement surgery.

Dr Kley is active in several professional organisations and a guest member of the Joint Preservation Expert Group of AO Foundation. A highly regarded speaker, he lectures, teaches, and carries out live surgery at global conferences and events.
