Mr Jean Marc Guichet

MD, PhD, Doct Sci

Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon, Specialist Limb Surgery (Lengthening and Reconstruction)

Mr Jean Marc Guichet (MD, PhD, Doct. Sci., Orthopaedic Consultant) is a leading specialist in Limb Lengthening. He is renowned for his pioneering work in limb lengthening surgery and advanced reconstructive surgery.

He developed the first fully weight-bearing intramedullary lengthening nail (Albizzia), then its new version (Guichet Nail or ‘G Nail’) used in the UK, Europe and in the USA from 1991. He created the current ‘Gold Standard’ in the field of lengthening. He also developed new ways of treating children, developing complex unprecedented surgeries, among them ligament reconstruction of absent ligaments in children, 3D reconstruction and lengthening over nails in children and adults, complex handling of non-healing and infected bone lesions and intramedullary bone trauma management in children. As a result of his research, he is a regular contributor of articles to professional journals and holds several patents in the field.

For over 30 years, he promoted sports activities during leg lengthening, fast gains (up to 50 mm in the first month) with fast healing and return to normal activities through less invasive techniques. For cosmetic patients, he introduced early discharge of walking patients down to 3 hours after awakening from surgery in Day Care patients in Harley Street Specialist Hospital.

With more than 700 prospective cases in his statistics, he makes available his experience for continuous improvement of lengthening and reconstructions techniques, but also for preparation and post-operative management of patients with his team.

He graduated several Universities including: Aix-Marseille II (MD and Doct Sci), then Dijon (Orthopaedic Specialty), Nancy (Masters and HDR) and New York University (PhD). He did several fellowships and become SLHC at the Paediatric Limb Reconstruction Surgery Department in Sheffield before developing an International Limb Lengthening Centre in London (ILLC) and in Milan (GILL Institute). In Sheffield, he launched the first UK Elastic Stable Intramedullary Nailing Course in 2000, held yearly since then and is regularly teaching in his field.

Mr. Guichet’s membership of Societies includes the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Society for Children’s Orthopaedic Surgery, the British Limb Reconstruction Society the French Society for Orthopedic and Trauma Surgery (SOFCOT), the French Society of Paediatric Orthopedics, the French Society for Biomechanics and the New York Academy of Sciences.

His practice started in France and in the USA and is now in the United Kingdom (London) and in Italy (Milan).
