Mr Luke Cascarini FRCS (OMFS) MRCS FDSRCS MBChB BDS is one of the UK’s top specialist mouth, jaw and face surgeons. One of the few UK consultants to offer temporomandibular joint (TMJ) replacement and arthroscopic TMJ surgery, most of the TMJ replacement procedures in the South of England are carried out by him. Currently leading the head and neck cancer multidisciplinary team for HCA Healthcare at Guy’s Cancer Centre he is dedicated to innovation and continues to refine TMJ disorders and advanced jaw reconstruction treatments.

In 1995, Mr Cascarini graduated in dental surgery from University of Bristol Dental School, before qualifying in medicine and surgery at the University of Wales in 2000. He studied at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, where he holds a Fellowship in Dental Surgery, before embarking on advanced training in oral and maxillofacial surgery in the South Thames region.

Mr Cascarini’s list of innovations and firsts is extensive: he performed the UK’s first level III jaw arthroscopy to treat jaw joint disc displacement; carried out the UK’s first jawbone replacement using a 3D-printed mandible incorporating a titanium frame; is the only consultant using AMPP/Lipogems regenerative treatments to treat jaw osteoarthritis, and has successfully developed new techniques on free flap jaw reconstruction for cancer patients.

He contributes regularly to academic publications and is an acclaimed educator. His achievements include: authoring the Oxford Handbook of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery; editing on Elsevier’s Maxillofacial Surgery textbook; and co-authoring Principles of Surgery: Everything you need to know but were frightened to ask!, and reviewing for Dental Journal and other journals.

He is an honorary consultant at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust, where he led registrar training until 2019, and holds an annual course on level III jaw arthroscopy which attracts an international audience.
