Mr Nicholas Gibbins MBBS, BSc (hons), FRCS(ORL-HNS), MD, is a renowned Consultant Otolaryngologist and Voice Surgeon. He is known primarily for his work with professional voice users including professional singers and actors. He is a leading voice on the topic of the treatment of vocal fold scar and sulcus and is invited to lecture on this topic internationally. He is one of the only people in the world to investigate and treat disorders of the throat and voice that are caused by distal biomechanical factors.

With this work he has built up a wide network of expert allied professionals who can help manage throat and voice issues including speech therapists, physiotherapists, osteopaths, vocal rehabilitation coaches and psychologists.

He is on the vocal health working group for the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine and has advised for West End Theatre Companies.

He graduated from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, London in 1998 before junior training in the Wessex region followed by specialist higher ENT surgical training in London and the South East including specialist paediatric ENT at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. This training has allowed him to be an expert in treating all aspects of ENT conditions and if he is unable to treat you, he has a network of expert colleagues who he will recommend.

He has been awarded a number of prizes for his work including the Registrar’s Gold Medal for research in 2011. Other awards include the Van Lawrence Prize and the David Howard Prize. He has published more than 30 articles and written 8 text-book chapters regarding the management of voice disorders and on ENT emergencies. He is an external examiner for the University of Canterbury Christ Church in the MCh for Otolaryngology.
