Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon

The hallmarks of, Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Nick Ferran’s MBBS, MSc. (Orth. Eng.), FRCS (Tr. & Orth.) approach to patient care are his exemplary listening skills and his ability to communicate diagnoses in a clear, professional but gentle manner.  Fellowship-trained in shoulder and elbow surgery, Mr Ferran specialises in shoulder and elbow conditions including fractures and dislocations; soft tissue injuries; degenerative conditions and nerve problems such as cubital tunnel syndrome. He has been published in professional journals, is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, a member of the British Orthopaedic Association and British Elbow & Shoulder Society, who is committed to advancing research and medical education.

In 2002 Mr Ferran gained his medical degree, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), from The University of the West Indies before joining the East Midlands (South) T&O Rotation in the UK to undertake his specialist trauma and orthopaedic training, including gaining a Master of Science (MSc) in Orthopaedic Engineering from Cardiff University in 2010. Mr Ferran then completed the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Tr. & Orth) in 2012.

Time spent studying on sought-after fellowships at the Prince of Wales and Concord hospitals in Sydney, Australia, and at Circle-Nottingham NHS Treatment Centre enabled Mr Ferran to develop his sub-specialist skills in shoulder and elbow surgery. He joined London North West Healthcare NHS Trust as a shoulder and elbow consultant in 2016, where he currently holds the position of Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery.

He has been published in all the leading shoulder journals and contributed to several textbooks. He also plays an active role in medical education: in 2013 he was the British Orthopaedic Trainees’ Association, Specialty Advisory Committee (Trauma & Orthopaedics) Representative and is an Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) instructor as well as being involved in several medical education research projects.
