Mrs Anne Mitchener BSc PhD MB BChir FRCS FRCS(SN) AoEC is a consultant neurosurgeon who specialises in the treatment of degenerate spine, including referred pain in the neck, back, neck, arms, and legs. Minimising intervention is at the heart of her approach, using minimally invasive surgical techniques and injections wherever appropriate. With over 20 years’ spinal surgery experience, she also holds two psychology degrees, and being able to help her patients return to their normal lifestyles gives her enormous satisfaction.
She graduated in psychology from University College London in 1979 and followed this with a PhD in drug abuse at the Institute of Psychiatry. She gained her medical degree at the University of Cambridge and undertook her specialist neurosurgery training in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh and has been practising since 2002.
After working as a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Stavanger University Hospital, Norway, she took up equivalent posts at Charing Cross Hospital and King’s College Hospital and now practises on an entirely independent basis.
She frequently attends medical conferences to keep updated in her field, has taught junior surgeons, and been involved in the development of spinal technologies. She is a member of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons, Society of British Neurological Surgeons, Royal College of Surgeons of England, and Independent Doctors Federation. She has a lifelong interest in understanding and developing interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, a skillset which helps her bring a positive and informed attitude to every person she treats.
A dedicated, solutions-oriented professional with a positive, go-ahead attitude, she carries out spinal surgery, both for the NHS and on a private basis.
