Facial aesthetics, or facial rejuvenation treatments, are a range of non-surgical procedures which reduce the signs of ageing on the face. They can soften expression lines, contour the face and define certain facial features.
Facial aesthetic treatments
Treatments involve injections which are used to block nerve signals to muscles to relax facial expressions or to define and accentuate facial contours.
Hyaluronic acid facial fillers (dermal fillers)
Hyaluronic acid is a clear gel, which is injected to restore lost volume back to your face, smooth lines and wrinkles, model your profile or enlarge your lips. It is injected with a fine needle in small quantities under the skin. It can make your skin look and feel more supple without changing your natural appearance.
The main function of hyaluronic acid is to retain water to lubricate joints, shape eyes and give skin volume. As we age, the hyaluronic acid content of our skin loses the ability to store water. The skin loses moisture and volume, becomes drier and doesn’t regenerate as effectively. Hyaluronic acid facial fillers work by replenishing the hyaluronic acid in selected areas to rejuvenate the skin.
Anti-wrinkle injections
Injections can be used to relax the muscles in the face which create fine lines and wrinkles and prevent any more deepening of lines.
The most common areas treated are the wrinkles between the eyebrows (frown lines), wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), horizontal creases in the forehead and lines at the corners of the mouth. Injections can also be used to smooth the neck and to treat facial pain as a result of facial muscle spasms.
The procedure takes around 10 minutes and involves small injections directly into the muscles which are being treated.
What are the possible side effects?
Side effects for facial aesthetic treatments are rare.
You may feel pain, swelling and tenderness around the injection site but these reactions should only last for a few days.
