Dr Stephen Humble
MBChB MSc PhD FCARCSI
Consultant in Interventional Spinal Medicine
Dr Stephen Humble MBChB MSc PhD FCARCI is Medical Director of The London Interventional Clinic and a Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Charing Cross Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, London. He specialises in Interventional Spinal Medicine for neck and back pain and spinal injections such as epidurals, facet joint injections, SIJ injections as well as radiofrequency treatments. Vastly experienced, he is a dedicated, empathetic practitioner, who is passionate about helping to relieve his patients’ pain. Key to his approach is keeping invasive surgical procedures to a minimum, which not only reduces risk, but also means his patients can be treated on an outpatient basis.
Dr Humble completed his medical degree at the University of Aberdeen in 2000 before undertaking his postgraduate training in Australia and the UK. In 2010, he gained his Master’s (MSc) in Pain Management at the University of Edinburgh in 2010 before achieving a PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Dundee in 2012.
During the last 16 years, in addition to carrying out thousands of spinal injections and epidurals, he has overseen many ‘whole person’ treatments, which include medications and exercise, as a part of his work in his specialism of Interventional Spinal Medicine. He is one of only a handful of specialists who treat patients with radiofrequency therapy, Racz Epiduroplasty, and Capsaicin 179mg patch therapy for painful peripheral neuropathy.
As well as contributing many medical papers to professional journals, he has appeared on Health: Truth or Scare, a BBC One show, and is a sought-after presenter at meetings and conferences.
Dr Humble has frequently helped patients who have been struggling with conditions such as sciatica, slipped discs and severe neck pain. He understands the impact these disorders have on his patients’ lives and finds it deeply rewarding to help to return them to their normal lifestyles.
